So I'm in a Taxify on my way to Ronald's office and this guy calls in on Nigeria Info (99.3) to rant about his wife

That normally, he gives her a substantial monthly feeding package upfront — first week of the month

And that she "harrassed him" into adding "miscellanious"

That way, she has more than enough to stock up enough food items in the kitchen and fridge/freezer — and she won't ask him for any money relating to food for the whole month..

He obliged.

And they've been living happily like that since they got married

Until the economy started getting worse than what they were used to

And all of a sudden,

She starts telling him he needs to increase money for feeding by 50%

Because (as she put it) — food items are getting more and more expensive at the market...

Like most Nigerian men, his initial response was:

"Madam there's no money please manage the one you have"

So she does this really brilliant thing where...

One day — on that same week, while he's on his way out,

She begs him to buy N5,000 meat on his way home...

Oga got to the Butcher and when they cut the N5,000 meat for him,

It was so small, so forbidden, so annoying to look at...

He had to tell them to cut another N5,000 meat

And he ended up buying N25,000 meat that day

And when he got home...

He was grumbling and complaining bitterly when his wife welcomed him and asked if he saw meat to buy...

He said since that day,

Whenever his wife tells him to buy any food item from the market on his way home,

He simply gives her the money to buy it herself.

And that unless she insists both of them go to the market,

There's no way in hell he's going there alone

Lol, I just like how he shared his narrative with good humor

And how he ended by saying...

Most times, you really don't know how much money your woman is trying to save you, until you go to the market yourself...

And you could tell this guy loves his wife to bits

No bad blood and no negative energy

Just the kind of husband I want to be if I choose to marry (I'll make a good husband right?)

Anyway how's things at your end?

Everything okay?

A little update from my end

So I discovered I was getting too comfortable recently

And I decided to do something drastic that's costing me between Four to Six Million Naira (10 to 12 thousand dollars – give or take)

And if I'm serious enough...

The return on investment is going to be around 50x or more

The idea is to put myself in a position where...

If I don't do what I gotta do...

I'm paying dearly for my incompetence

You don't have to spend that much to hold yourself accountable

It could be someting as simple as giving yourself a deadline

Or getting into an island where you burn your ship and you have no other option but to do what you have to do to make things work

The trick here is when we put ourselves in a position where the only way out is to win...

We always end up doing stuff we never even imagined possible

And about the rising cost of living...

The only thing I have to say is...

The bigger your income, the less you have to worry about inflation

So let's say as of January 2021,

The Naira was N350 = $1

And you were earning N100,000 a month at the time

That's $285 you're living on right? (with bills and family responsibilities)

And now...

In May, the Naira is around N450 = $1

And you're still earning N100,000 a month

That gives us around $222 or so (please check)

And the price of things are increasing because of the Naira devaluation...

And you still have all those bills to pay (and maybe even more)

Family to take care of

Friends you want to support

Uncertain Emergencies that may come up

And a few things you're trying to save up money for

And the more the Naira gets devalued

The harder it gets for you to keep up,

Talk more of dream of doing anything outside the basic stuff that's normall priority...

Because you have to survive first

Food, housing, power supply, and maybe a few responsibilities you're biologically wired to shoulder back home...

And you almost go crazy thinking about it,

At one point or the other ...

We all find ourselves in this situation

For some, it's a wake up call...

And there's this feeling of...

I never want to be in this kind of situation again

I hate this feeling of feeling powerless and not being able to do what I want to do because my income is not sufficient enough

If I don't do something about it,

It's only going to keep getting worse...

So these folks take drastic action with the ultimate goal of increasing their income as much as possible — so they have more than enough to take care of their loved ones and live comfortably...

The others simply hope things get better (nothing wrong with that)

But a few months or years down the line

It's those who take the pain to make a serious effort to upgrade their income that will now have an earning capacity big enough to live comfortably without fear of inflation or economic depression...

And listen...

It's nothing to be ashamed of if you're not making enough money right now and you want a better income for yourself...

Don't let fear of what people will say discourage you from doing what you have to do...

Let them laugh at you...

Let them ridicule you

Let them call you foolish

Even your own blood will make a mockery of you...

"This your online business sef, have you made up to N1Million yet? Have you bought land? By now I thought you would have moved into your own place .... This thing you're pressing won't make you any more — I told you you're just wasting your time..."

Don't worry...

Whether it's copywriting or something else...

Just keep your head down and keep working tirelessly

A few months or years from now,

When you're making their 3-6 months salary in one month....

They'll be the ones asking you to teach them how you do it...

And if you need a bit of guidance on this path...

I have a small group of freelancers I've introduced to this thing of ours who are now making $2,000, $3,000, $5,000, $10,000 a month
